Student Staff

Student Staff

Updated 1st May 2020

While the University have furloughed some of their employed staff - which means they'll keep their job and get paid a minimum of 80% of their salary while off, they have confirmed that this will not apply to student staff.

9. All  student staff should be furloughed and the university should pay 100% of their wages.

What are we doing about it?

Updated 1st May 2020

We've e-mailed UniTemps but unfortunately,  the decision to furlough student staff is down to the University. We are working with other Students' Union's to campaign on this issue. In the menatime, please see our support page for information on financial support.

Updated 7th Arpil 2020

We met with the Vice Chancellor this week to discuss student staff pay. Although the University has pledged to pay 100% of all University-employed staff wages and furlough them, they have said they will not do this for student staff employed through UniTemps.

We've  guaranteed all student staff in the Guild will get furloughed and 100% of their wages - so we've be asked the University to match that. Unfortunately, they have said no.

We'll keep fighting on your behalf and will be arranging a meeting with UniTemps to discuss this and lobby on your behalf.

What can I do?

If you're a member of student staff at UCB, let us know if you've heard anything from the University

Submit any different ideas and look at other students' ideas to vote up, down or comment on, to make sure we've got the greatest number of student voices involved.

If you haven't already - join a Union! We can represent you as students, but you should also be in a staff union to represent your working rights. That's true whether you're a staff member at UCB or working in any other industry. You can check out which Union you could join via the national organisation for all trade unions, the Trade Union Congress (TUC).

What have we won to date?

We're busy fighting on your behalf and have nothing to report yet, but come back soon for some updates!
