Sexual Health
Maintaining sexual health is as essential as safeguarding physical and mental wellbeing. At the Guild, we want to promote safe practices and healthy relationships.
STI/STD Testing
Testing and treatment for sexually transmitted infections (STIs) are available at the Umbrella Health service in the city center. We recommend scheduling an appointment with your local GP or Umbrella center if you have any concerns regarding your sexual health. Regular testing is important for everyone, irrespective of sexual orientation, especially between partners.
LGBT+ Testing
LGBT+ people can experience different kind of risks or have different needs from sexual wellbeing services. Free, confidential support tailored to LGBT+ experiences is available through Birmingham LGBT. If you are concerned about accessing health care because of your transgender identity, some community websites maintain lists of inclusive GPs, such as this one.
Condoms
Condoms help to prevent unplanned pregnancy and reduce the spread of STIs. At UCB, you can pick up packs from an Umbrella pop-up on campus, or from the Guild. Latex external condoms, latex-free external condoms, and latex internal condoms are available in discreet packaging.
Sustainability
Sustainability is a priority for the Guild, and conventional condoms made from latex rubber can take several years to decompose. We know that access and affordability may limit choice, but eco-friendly alternatives such as One Condoms are available online.
Sexual Violence and Misconduct
If you have experienced sexual violence or misconduct, it’s important that you report it and seek support if you feel able to do so.
Getting Support
Birmingham City Council maintain lists of local services for anyone seeking support connected to sexual violence or associated misconduct. They also maintain lists for those seeking targeted support:
Making a Report
UCB run a Sexual Harassment and Misconduct Support Service to provide a safe, confidential space where you can talk and be heard. We strongly recommend that you access their support or make a report to them, as they receive specialist training. To make a report, visit the UCB site:
